UGC NET December 2024 Eligibility and Qualification
1. Qualifying Examination
- General/UR/EWS: Minimum 55% in Master’s Degree (without rounding off).
- OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: Minimum 50% in Master’s Degree.
- Candidates in the final year of Master’s can apply provisionally but must meet the percentage criteria within 2 years of result declaration.
2. Ph.D. Holders
- Master’s completed by 19th September 1991: 5% relaxation (55% to 50%).
- Must verify equivalence for foreign degrees via AIU.
3. Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree
- Eligible for JRF/Ph.D. admission with 75% marks (Relaxation: 5% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD).
- Not eligible for Assistant Professor posts.
4. Exemptions (Assistant Professor)
- Candidates with UGC/CSIR JRF (prior to 1989) and SET (before June 2002) are exempted from NET.
- SET (after June 2002): Eligible only in the state where the exam was cleared.
Age Limit
- JRF: Max 30 years as of 01.01.2025.
- Relaxation:
- 5 years: OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender/Women.
- 3 years: LLM degree holders.
- Armed Forces: Relaxation based on service (max 5 years).
- Research Experience: Up to 5 years (with valid proof).
- Assistant Professor/Ph.D.: No age limit.
Important Notes
- Appear in the subject of post-graduation or a related subject if not listed in NET subjects.
- Selection for JRF/Ph.D./Assistant Professor is based on aggregate performance in both papers.
- NET qualification mandatory for Assistant Professor unless exempted.
