NMMS 2025 Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for NMMS scholarship selection test are based on three factors: domicile, financial status, and academic qualification. To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Students successful in NMMSS Exam 2025 will apply online for Fresh Registration of Class 9th Scholarship on NSP Portal for the academic session 2025-26.
- Students successful in NMMSS exam 2024 will apply for renewal of class 10th scholarship on NSP portal.
- Students successful in NMMSS exam 2023 will apply for renewal of class 11th scholarship on NSP portal.
- Students successful in NMMSS exam 2022 will apply for renewal of class 12th scholarship on NSP portal.
- Students studying in 8th Class in Government, Local body and Govt. aided Schools are eligible for this Scheme.
- Parental income from all sources should not exceed than Rs. 3, 50,000/- per annum. Parental Income Certificate issued by Chandigarh Administration has to be attached with the application form.
- Note that students enrolled in ‘Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS)’ and ‘Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV)’ are not eligible for scholarships through NMMS program.
- For continuation of scholarship in higher secondary school, the candidate must score at least 60% marks in the class 10 board exam.
- To be eligible to continue receiving the scholarship in class 12, the recipient must have cleared class 11 in their first attempt with a minimum score of 55% or its equivalent. Students belonging to the SC/ST category are granted a 5% relaxation in marks.

NMMS Scholarship Amount
Each year, 1,00,000 students receive the NMMS Scholarship of Rs. 12,000 per annum (Rs. 1,000 per month). The amount is disbursed in a single installment via SBI through PFMS, directly into the student’s bank account. The scholarship starts in Class 9 and is renewed annually up to Class 12, subject to academic promotion each year.
How to Apply for NMMS Scholarship 2025 Online Registration ?
Eligible students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by following these steps:
- Visit scholarships.gov.in and click on “New Registration”.
- Read and accept guidelines, then fill in required details to register.
- Login using the application ID and password sent to your mobile.
- Change password after OTP verification (mandatory).
- Go to the Applicant Dashboard and click on “Application Form”.
- Fill in personal, academic, and contact details; upload documents.
- Click “Save as Draft” to review, then click “Final Submit” to complete the process.
Note: After the final submission of Scholarship applications cannot be edited again. So, the applicants are advised to be double check while clicking on final submit as no change of information will be entertained after final submission

Selection Process For NMMS Scholarship
The NMMS Scholarship selection is conducted by each State/UT and follows guidelines set by NCERT. It involves two tests:
- Mental Ability Test (MAT) – 90 MCQs to assess reasoning and analytical skills.
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) – 90 MCQs from Class 7 & 8 subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies).
🕒 Duration: 90 minutes each (extra time for specially-abled students).
✅ Qualifying Marks:
- GEN, BC, PH – 40% (36 marks)
- SC/ST – 32% (29 marks)
Note: Students must qualify both MAT and SAT with the required minimum marks.
About National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It aims to support 1,00,000 meritorious students from economically weaker sections each year, selected at the end of Class 8. The scholarship begins from Class 9 and continues up to Class 12, offering Rs. 12,000 per annum.
The main objective is to reduce dropout rates after Class 8 and encourage students to complete their secondary education. Applications are submitted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and undergo two levels of verification — first by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) and then by the District Nodal Officer (DNO).
